Discoveries: Herman’s Hermits—Silhouettes; Righteous
Brothers—Just Once in My Life
Very impressive move by Herman’s Hermits to the top, while
their “Silhouettes” appears as a Discovery.
“Silhouettes” was actually their release BEFORE “Mrs. Brown”—“Silhouettes”
entered the Hot 100 on April 3, and “Mrs. Brown” on April 17, four weeks after
its first appearance here. And their release before "Silhouettes," "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat," is still at number 4 here; they were the hottest group around, even more so in the US than in their native England.
Wayne Fontana, Petula Clark and Sam the Sham all also make
jumps into the top ten.
All the debuts were Hot 100 hits, with the Waikikis’
follow-up to “Hawaii Tattoo,” “Hawaii Honeymoon,” scoring the biggest
difference here from its Billboard ranking—91 BB, 24 KJR. The next biggest is “Somebody Else is Taking
My Place” by Al Martino, which hit 53 in Billboard and will reach number 30
here next week.
