Honey Bees--One Wonderful Night
Discovery: Sheridan Hollenbeck—Tokyo Melody

Four new non-BB hits this week.  Tacoma’s Wailers are back, showing some British influence with “You Better Believe It,” which will peak at number 33 in two weeks.  Jimmy Hanna was the lead singer of Seattle R&B-based rock band the Dynamics, though “Busybody” was credited on the record label as by Jimmy Hanna (with “with the Dynamics” in smaller letters).  “Busybody” will climb slowly to number 31, spending 11 weeks on the survey.  The Honey Bees were popular girl group the Cookies recording under an assumed name and therefore not getting a hit; “One Wonderful Night” will rise to number 42 next week and then drop off the survey.  And the Discovery, “Tokyo Melody,” is an easy listening instrumental tying in with the Tokyo Olympics, which will make it up to number 11 here at KJR.

KJR turned the Ventures record over this week, with “Rap City” taking over the survey spot from “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue.”

Big jumps to number 3 and number 5 this week by the Newbeats and the Four Seasons.

Discoveries: Little Anthony & the Imperials—Goin’ Out of My Head; Newbeats--Pink Dally Rue

Herb Alpert’s “South of the Border” did not make Billboard (although his “Lonely Bull” had been a top ten hit in 1962, it wasn’t until 1965 that he really hit his stride), but will make it to number 35 here next week.  And one of this week's Discoveries, "Pink Dally Rue" by the Newbeats, was the b-side of "Everything's Alright," debuting at number 18--at BB "Everything's Alright" hit number 16 while "Pink Dally Rue" did not chart, while here at KJR they will reach number 3 and number 5 respectively.

All the other debuts made the Hot 100, with the biggest BB/KJR differentials being Sandie Shaw’s “(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me” (52/5), Lesley Gore’s “Sometimes I Wish I Were a Boy” (86/33), Phyllis McGuire’s “I Don’t Want to Walk Without You” (79/30), and, going in the other direction, this week’s other Discovery—“Goin’ Out of My Head” by Little Anthony & the Imperials was a number 6 BB hit that will only get to number 20 at KJR.
