Chambers Brothers--Time Has Come Today
|
All the week’s debuts were Hot 100 Billboard hits. One just barely—“Sally Had a Party” by
Flavor, an organ-heavy “Gimme Some Lovin’” soundalike, was number 95, but will
get to number 28 here (after spending the next three weeks at number 33). The biggest national hit among the seven
debuts was Archie Bell & the Drells’ “I Can’t Stop Dancing,” at number
nine, but here it’ll only go to number 45; while the biggest hit here of the
bunch will be “Down at Lulu’s” by the Ohio Express, number three, but it was
only a number 33 BB hit. The only other
one that will perform significantly differently here is “Somebody Cares” by Tommy
James & the Shondells, a number 53 BB hit that will make it to number 26 at
KJR.
Personal aside: If someone asks me what my favorite song is,
my standard answer is “Time Has Come Today” by the Chambers Brothers. The shortened single version of the
eleven-minute song debuts here at number 50; it’ll almost exactly match its
national peak (11BB/12KJR).
What's not to love about "Time Has Come Today"?
ReplyDeleteYou look at the band, and you expect R&B, but instead you get some pretty good hard driving rock.
"My soul's been psychedelicized!"
