Herman's Hermits--Sunshine Girl

Bobby Cole’s “Mr. Bojangles” drops off the survey, leaving Jerry Jeff Walker’s version on its own for its final three weeks.

Only five debuts, four of which will beat their national peaks—the exception being the Who’s “Magic Bus” (25BB/30KJR).  Al Wilson’s soul-rock classic “The Snake” was a number 27 BB hit that will get to number 13 here.  “Morning Dew” by Lulu stopped at number 52 in Billboard but will go to number 17 here.  British singer Don Fardon, formerly of the Sorrows, had a number 20 US hit with his version of “Indian Reservation,” two years before it became a hit in the UK, two and a half years before it became a hit for the Raiders, and nine years after it was written by John D. Loudermilk and recorded by Marvin Rainwater.  Don’s version will get up to number six here.  And Herman’s Hermits are making their final appearance on the KJR Fab 50 with “Sunshine Girl,” which will go to number 48 next week and then drop off, while at Billboard it only made number 101.  They still had more big hits ahead of them in the UK at this point, though.
