We Five--Let's Get Together

Beatles sound-alike “Lies” debuts much higher than the actual Beatles with “We Can Work it Out.”  Not only that, but “Lies” is already almost as high on the survey as its peak position at Billboard (20).  It will get all the way to number two here.

Three non-BB debuts.  British Spokane group the Liverpool Five are back in the survey, this time with “Heart,” which will make it to number 19.  Barry McGuire, having some trouble getting airplay in much of the country, struck out nationally with “This Precious Time,” but here it will drop off next week, return the following week at number 39, then drop off for good.

The third non-BB debut is “Freedom’s Child” by Alexys, which will get to number 25.  Alexys was Paula Tutmarc, daughter of northwest music legend Bonnie Guitar (who produced and co-wrote the record) and Paul Tutmarc, inventor of the electric bass guitar.  As Paula Tutmarc-Johnson, she was a gallery owner and a leader in the Tacoma arts community until her death last month.

Instrumental “Harlem Nocturne” by the Viscounts will reach number 5.  It only got to number 39 in Billboard, six years after reaching number 52 on its original release in 1959.
