Lettermen--Secretly

A high debut for Bob Dylan, and a big leap upwards for Little Jimmy Dickens.  “Road Runner” by the Gants returns to the survey after dropping off for a week.  “Help!” drops completely off from number 12.

“Hang On Sloopy” by the McCoys debuts on the survey, paired with “(My Girl) Sloopy” (same song) by Little Caesar & the Consuls as a single entry.  They’ll be listed this way for three weeks, and then the McCoys will have the spot to themselves for five more weeks.  Two debuts were non-BB hits: Seattle’s Viceroys return to the survey with “That Sound,” which will peak here at number 25; and Wayne Newton’s “Keep the Lovin’ Feelin’,” the b-side of number 69 Billboard hit “Remember When” (which will not make the KJR list), will get up to number 11.  Jan & Dean’s “I Found a Girl,” number 30 in Billboard, will get all the way to number two here, and “Mr. Jones (A Ballad of a Thin Man),” a slightly retitled Bob Dylan song by the Grass Roots, will make it to number 29 here versus number 121 in Billboard.

This week may be the peak of the folk-rock craze, at least at KJR, with about 10 or 12 records on the survey that could be so described.
