The b-side “The End of the World” is dropped from the entry for Herman’s Hermits’ “I’m Henry the VII, I Am” this week, while the other side of Herb Alpert’s “3rd Man Theme” is added.  “Taste of Honey” was intended as the b-side, but it would become much the bigger side nationally and somewhat bigger locally, getting to number 7 in Billboard (versus 47 for “3rd Man Theme”) and number 22 here at KJR (35 for the other).  Also, the Bonnie & the Treasures version of “Home of the Brave” enters the survey in a shared listing with Jody Miller’s version; the joint entry will peak at number 10 here, while nationally Jody got to number 25 and Bonnie to number 77.

All the other debuts this week were big hits, top twelve hits, except for one.  The Tokens never again came anywhere near the success they had in 1961 with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” and here in 1965 the changing times had sort of left them behind, with “Bells of St. Mary” failing to reach Billboard while peaking at KJR at this week’s number 47.  But they would adapt, and in 1966 they began a string of minor hits that lasted until 1970.  Among this week’s other new ones, Roy Head and the Gentrys, with number two and number four BB hits respectively, will top out at number 16 and number 18 here.
