Arthur Brown burns his way up the survey.
It seems odd how low “Hey Jude” debuts, but don’t worry, it
will make up for it next week.
Two of the nine debuts only Bubbled Under at Billboard. The kinda bluesy, kinda psychedelic “Hole in
My Pocket” by the Barry Goldberg Reunion was number 103 there, but will make it
to number 25 here. And the soulful
pop-rock “Per-so-nal-ly” by Bobby Paris will beat its number 129 BB showing by
getting to number 33.
Max Frost & the Troopers were a fictional group featured
in the movie Wild in the Streets; “Shape of Things to Come” was a surprisingly
tough and ominous record that made it up to number 22 in Billboard and will get
to number eight here. The short, single
version of “In-a-Gadda-da-Vida” was only a number 30 national hit, but it will
gradually creep up to number 13 here.
And “That Kind of Woman” by Merrilee Rush & the Turnabouts, a number
76 BB hit, will go to number 31 here—not as much of a difference as I would
have guessed for one of Seattle’s biggest 1968 stars.
