Nova's Nine--Pain

Good jumps for the Grass Roots and Jimi Hendrix.

“Pain” by Nova’s Nine, from North Carolina, is semi-punky high-speed horn rock; it didn’t make the Billboard chart at all, and will get to number 42 here.  Teen heartthrob Sajid Khan’s version of the show tune “Getting to Know You” Bubbled Under at BB at number 108, while here it’ll go to number 13.  Then we’ve got two debuts that will come up short here: Johnny Nash’s early reggae “Hold Me Tight” was number five nationally but will only make it to number 24 here in Seattle (though it’ll spend twelve weeks on the survey), and O.C. Smith’s version of “Little Green Apples” will get to number 16 here but it was a number two hit in Billboard.  That leaves just one more debut for the week, so I’ll also mention that Donovan’s “Lalena” will do about as well here (number 25) as it did in Billboard (number 33).

  1. Sajid Khan...a name from the past...he was on a short lived TV show with Jay North called "Maya", about a couple of kids wandering around India on an elephant.
