Jose Feliciano--Hi-Heel Sneakers

The hard-rocking “The Eagle Laughs at You” by Jackie Lomax, written and produced by George Harrison, will creep up to number 41 despite only making it to number 125 in Billboard.  It was actually the b-side of “Sour Milk Sea,” a number 117 BB hit that KJR did not go for.

The other seven debuts were all Hot 100 hits.  The Monkees’ pop-psych “Porpoise Song,” from their movie Head, was a number 62 BB hit that will almost reach the top ten here, stopping at number eleven.  Bubblegum anthem “Chewy Chewy” by the Ohio Express, number 15 nationally, will spend two weeks at number one here.  The Vanilla Fudge’s typically-for-them slow and sludgy version of “Take Me For a Little While” will do a bit better here than elsewhere, number 23 versus number 38, as will Bobby Goldsboro’s “The Straight Life,” number 36 versus number 21.  Falling short by about the same amount will be Jose Feliciano’s version of “Hi-Heel Sneakers,” which will stop at number 43 but was number 25 in Billboard.
