Arthur Brown, after moving up 34 spots last week, goes the rest of the way this week into the number one position.  But he won’t have time to get comfortable there, as the Beatles are breathing down his neck.  “Hey Jude” jumps 31 notches and picks up its b-side, “Revolution,” along the way.

Aretha Franklin’s “The House That Jack Built” is joined on the survey by its b-side, “I Say a Little Prayer,” which is listed first this week and will be listed by itself the next two before dropping off.

Only four debuts—all at the very bottom of the survey—so let’s run through them all.  Two will do almost exactly as well here as nationally: The Box Tops’ “I Met Her in Church” (37BB/35KJR) and Dionne Warwick’s “Who is Gonna Love Me?” (33/36).  Hippie-pop “Golden Gate Park” by hippie-pop Rejoice! was a number 96 Billboard hit that will make it to number 20 here.  And “Poor Baby” by the Cowsills was a number 44 BB hit that will get to number 19 here.
