Rolling Stones--We Love You

“Dandelion” dies off and floats away on the wind; “We Love You” continues alone.

The Challengers were a surf instrumental group that had evolved with the times; “Water Country,” a non-BB single, was pretty easy-listening, with horns and female la-la vocals.  It’ll go to number 44 next week and then fall off the survey.  Zal Yanovsky had recently left the Lovin’ Spoonful, of which he had been a founding member and the lead guitarist; his “As Long As You’re Here,” a lively, fairly Spoonfullish number, didn’t quite make the Hot 100, sticking at 101, but here it’ll get to number 25.  The other debuts were all top 30 in Billboard, and most will come very close to equaling here their performances there (12/13, 1/1, 25/23, 2/2, 29/23)—the exceptions are “People Are Strange” by the Doors (12BB/6KJR), and Aretha Franklin’s “A Natural Woman” (8/20).
