Not a good week for Nancy Sinatra; her two hits fall from
numbers eight and 18 to 21 and 46. Next
week they’ll both be gone.
The Royal Guardsmen’s “Snoopy’s Christmas” was not a Hot 100
hit, because during this period Billboard had a separate Christmas chart. It got to number one there, and it’ll get to
number three here. Wilson Pickett’s “Stag-o-Lee,”
the Box Tops’ “Neon Rainbow” and Donovan’s “Wear Your Love Like Heaven”
performed about equally in Billboard, peaking at numbers 22, 24 and 23 there,
respectively; here they’ll end up scattered in different directions, with the
Box Tops getting all the way to number three while Donovan makes it to 13 and
Wilson Pickett goes up no further than this week’s number 37 position.
A majority of the week’s debuts are looking skyward: in
addition to “Neon Rainbow” and “Wear Your Love Like Heaven” there’s “Out of the
Blue” and “Summer Rain.”
