Forum--The River is Wide

Ten new records this week, all of which made the Billboard top 60 and all but one of which made the top 40.  “Lonely Drifter” by the Pieces of Eight, an offshoot of the Swingin’ Medallions, peaked at number 59 in BB and will do a bit better here, making it to number 34.  Frankie Valli’s first big solo hit, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” and the Fifth Estate’s bubblegum version of “Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead” almost reverse positions; Frankie will get to number eleven versus two nationally, while the Fifth Estate will reach number three here as opposed to eleven in Billboard.  And there were two that will fail to come close to their national peaks: Dionne Warwick’s version of “Alfie” (15BB/44KJR) and the Temptations’ “All I Need” (8/48).
