Don & the Goodtimes--Happy and Me

“Lovely Rita” arrives a little late for the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper party, debuting at number twelve as “A Day in the Life” and “She’s Leaving Home” drop off.

The other debuts were all Hot 100 hits except for one, “Sunny Goodge Street,” a Donovan song done by Vancouver BC folk/rock guy Tom Northcott.  It made number 123 in BB and will peak at number 28 here.  The rest will all do about as well here as they did nationally, with one exception—Don & the Goodtimes’ follow-up to “I Could Be So Good to You,” “Happy and Me” (which I think of as “The Little Dog Death Song” due to its opening lines “Remember when your little dog died/And on my shoulder you cried”).  It barely squeaked into the Hot 100 at number 98, but will rise quickly to number eleven here.
