Merry-Go-Round--Live
|
“Happy Together” drops off the survey from number five, but
comes back next week at number 22; I assume it was left off this week
accidentally.
“Penny Lane” drops off, leaving “Strawberry Fields Forever”
to continue alone for the rest of its survey run.
An oddity among the week’s debuts is the listing of Herb
Alpert’s “Casino Royale” and Burt Bacharach’s “Bond Street” as a single
entry. “Casino Royale” is the theme song
from the movie of the same name, while “Bond Street” is a reworking of a song
from the soundtrack originally called “Home James, Don’t Spare the
Horses.” Apparently KJR grouped them
together because of that connection, though they appeared on separate 45s. I don’t recall them ever doing anything like
that again. (The combined entry will
peak at number 39 next week; in Billboard, “Casino Royale” got to number 27
while “Bond Street” did not chart.)
Nino & April’s version of the old standard “My Old Flame,”
which almost made the BB Hot 100, stopping at 101, will peak here next week at
number 47. “Can’t Seem to Make You Mine”
by the Seeds got to number 41 in Billboard, while here it will make it to
number seven. Another Los Angeles group,
the Merry-Go-Round, will get up to number 33 with “Live” (that’s short-I live
not long-I live) versus their number 63 peak nationally. And Eric Burdon & the Animals’ “When I
Was Young,” a number 15 BB hit, will reach number four here.
