Aretha Franklin--I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)

“Coconut Grove” by the Dirty Shames is a cover of a Lovin’ Spoonful album cut; it did not make the Billboard chart, but will peak here next week at number 32.  Don & the Goodtimes are back with a new sunshine-pop sound and, thanks to their television exposure, their first national hit, “I Could Be So Good to You.”  It peaked at number 56 in Billboard but here it’ll be number one for four weeks.  The three soul records debuting this week will all fall short of their national rankings: “Bernadette” by the Four Tops (4BB/15KJR), “Jimmy Mack” by Martha & the Vandellas (10/27) and “I Never Loved a Man” by Aretha Franklin (9/41).
