Last week the Rolling Stones’ “Out of Time”/”Fortune Teller” was number five.  This week, “Out of Time” drops to number 26, “Fortune Teller” drops off the survey, and another version of “Fortune Teller,” by the Hardtimes, debuts at number three.  The Hardtimes’ version was a number 97 Billboard hit; they were a southern California group that appeared regularly on the TV show Where the Action Is.  There seems to be some disagreement as to whether they were the Hardtimes or the Hard Times, but I’m going with what it said on the “Fortune Teller” 45.

Don & the Goodtimes (who also appeared on Where the Action Is—were the Hardtimes their evil twins?) are back on the survey with the great “You Were Just a Child,” which will get to number 31, and did not make Billboard.  In 1967 their WTAI exposure will pay off with their only national hits.

It seems like Seattle always loved Hawaiian stuff, and Don Ho’s “Tiny Bubbles” shows a slight impact from that, as it will make number 33 here versus 57 in Billboard.  “I Can Make it With You,” a favorite of mine by the Pozo-Seco Singers, was a number 32 BB hit that will Make It to number eleven here; conversely, the Happenings’ version of “Go Away Little Girl” was a number twelve BB hit that will only get to number 27 here.

  1. Don and the goodtimes put together a great show set in the summer of 1966!
They were so tight and polished and if they only had a hit record they would
have sold out any concert in the world.
No joke man, in 66 they had an explosive show.
