New Vaudeville Band--Winchester Cathedral
|
This week is a problem, as either the survey did not appear
in the newspaper or the page it was on was missed when the issue was put on
microfilm. I was able to reconstruct the
majority of it from the “last week” column of the following week’s survey, but
I don’t know this week’s position of the songs that are in their final week,
plus I don’t know which songs dropped off from last week to this week and which
will drop off from this week to next week.
I have made my best guesses as to the latter point. Also, my notes show “Winchester Cathedral”
debuting this week but with an “X” for the position, and at this point I don’t
remember what that meant.
Peter & Gordon’s “Lady Godiva” rides briskly up the
chart. A high debut for “Good
Vibrations.”
Bobby Hebb’s “Love Love Love” drops off, leaving “A
Satisfied Mind” alone for its final weeks on the survey.
“The Bears” by the Fastest Group Alive was a kind of
hippyish novelty record that Bubbled Under at Billboard at number 133, but will
go all the way to number seven here.
Also doing significantly better in Seattle: the Standells’ “Why Pick on
Me” (54BB, 12KJR), “Meditation” by Claudine Longet (98/27) and the Turtles’ “Can
I Get to Know You Better” (89/37).
