The Sandpipers' "Louie, Louie" returns to the survey after an absence of two weeks.
One non-BB debut this week: Simon & Garfunkel’s “7 O’Clock News/Silent Night,” which was a track from their new album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme and was only released on a single as a promo for radio stations. Why they did that I don’t know. It’ll peak here next week at number 25.
The mellow country-pop “My Way of Life” by Texas songwriter
Sonny Curtis will peak next week at number 40; it only got to number 134 in
Billboard (49 on the country chart). Gary
& the Hornets were three brothers from Ohio (ages 6 to 13 or 7 to 14, depending
on the source) who formed a band—“Hi Hi Hazel” was their one hit, getting to
number 96 in Billboard but number twelve at KJR. Chicago group the Chicago Loop peaked at
number 37 nationally with their only hit, which will make it to number 14 here;
depending on the pressing of the 45, the title was either “(When She Needs Good
Lovin’) She Comes to Me” or “(When She Wants Good Lovin’) My Baby Comes to Me.” Also: Brian Hyland’s “Run, Run, Look and See”
(25BB/12KJR) and James & Bobby Purify’s “I’m Your Puppet” (6/16).
A lot of double-talk this week: “See See,” “Black is Black,”
“Chin Chin,” “Run, Run,” “Stop Stop Stop,” “Hi Hi,” and “Louie, Louie.”
