“We Can Work it Out”/”Day Tripper” becomes just “We Can Work it Out,” but just for this week—“Day Tripper” returns next week.

As “Michelle” reaches number one, it is now credited to “Beatles and others.”  After two weeks the credit will change to “Beatles/David & Jonathan.”  I don’t know whether “others” implied that KJR was playing any other versions besides these two.  David & Jonathan’s version, recorded and released as a single to capitalize on the fact that the Beatles version was not a single and therefore not being played on most radio stations, got to number 18 at Billboard.

One non-BB debut: Sammy Davis Jr.’s version of “Lonely Weekends,” which will get no higher than this week’s number 41 (and is another record I don’t own).  Neal Hefti’s original version of the Batman TV show theme song was a number 35 Billboard hit that will rise to number six here in four weeks; by that time it will be sharing the entry with the version by the Marketts, which was the bigger BB hit at number 17.  Ronnie Dove’s “When Liking Turns to Loving,” a number 18 BB hit, will get no higher than the number 45 it sits at this week, due to the fact that KJR will turn it over next week and start playing the flip side.  Verdelle Smith’s “In My Room” (not a version of the Beach Boys song but a melodramatic pop/soul translation of an Italian hit by Adriano Celentano) only got to number 62 in Billboard but will make it to number 13 here.
