Perry Como--Seattle
|
Another seven debuts, giving us 28 songs that were not on
the survey at the end of ’68. This time
they’re all lined up neatly at the bottom.
People suddenly got tired of “Little Arrows”—two weeks ago
it was number four, last week it was 16, now it’s gone.
It should come as no surprise that Perry Como’s “Seattle,” a
number 38 national hit, will get to number four here, and spend 16 weeks on the
survey. “November Snow” by Rejoice!, a
number-126-in-Billboard follow-up to “Golden Gate Park” (96BB/20KJR), will make
it to number 32 here. Deep Purple’s
deeppurplization of “River Deep-Mountain High” will do a bit better here than
nationally, 29 versus 53, while other noteworthy differences are: the Supremes’
“I’m Livin’ in Shame” (10BB/19KJR), “Things I’d Like to Say” by the
newly-mellow New Colony Six (16/4) and one of my all-time favorite soul hits, “Can
I Change My Mind” by Tyrone Davis (5/27).
