Since we had two weeks with no survey, there are a lot of debuts and a lot of movement within the chart.  Big jumps for the Bee Gees, Brian Hyland, Marvin Gaye and Tommy James.  “Love Child” and “Abraham, Martin & John” both dropped off the survey from the top 20.

Because Dusty Springfield was at number one the week before the two week hiatus as well as the week after, I’m inclined to give her credit for four weeks at number one.

Most of the eleven debuts will actually end up quite close to their national peaks.  The exceptions: “Sweet Cream Ladies, Forward March” by the Box Tops (28BB/2KJR), the Joe South song “The Greatest Love” by Dorsey Burnette (67/22), Three Dog Night’s version of “Try a Little Tenderness” (29/11), and Sammy Davis Jr’s version of “I’ve Gotta Be Me” (11/20).

We’ll have ten more debuts next week, making for a great deal of turnover in a short time.
