Doors--Touch Me

Only four debuts this week—all at the bottom of the chart—so I’ll mention them all.  “Crimson and Clover” by Tommy James & the Shondells spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard chart, but here it’ll stay there for seven weeks.  Mason “Classical Gas” Williams had his only vocal hit with “Saturday Night at the World,” which just edged onto the Billboard Hot 100 at number 99 but will peak at number 31 here.  Diana Ross and Eddie Kendricks dueting on “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” peaked at number two for two weeks at Billboard, but here it’ll stop at number 15.  And the Doors’ “Touch Me,” a number three BB hit, will just beat that here, spending one week at number two.

There was no survey for December 27 or January 3, or at least none in the newspaper.  My next post, though, will be on the 1968 year-end chart, which appeared in the December 20 edition next to this one.  Then we’ll begin 1969 with January 10.
