Jan & Dean--Norwegian Wood

As mentioned before, Herman’s Hermits at number 16 are returning rather than debuting.

The lone non-BB debut is Jan & Dean’s version of the Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood.” It was the b-side of the Billboard hit “Popsicle,” which will replace “Norwegian Wood” on the survey in two weeks.  Charlie Rich’s “Nice and Easy” got to number 131 in Billboard, but that was in 1964.  I’m not sure why, but it pops up here two years later, and will get to number 36.  Some interesting discrepancies among the other debuts: the Leaves (31BB/8 KJR), the Critters (42/15), Vic Dana (30/11), James Brown (8/30) and Ronnie Dove (20/44).
