A lot of shakeup this week.  Three records jump from the 40s into the top 20.  Last week’s number 17, 19, 24 and 27 records fall completely off the survey; so does the number 3 song, Herman’s Hermits’ “Leaning on the Lamppost,” but next week it’s back at number 16 so I assume its absence this week is a mistake.

Of the debuts, two were not Billboard hits.  “I Call Your Name” by the Mamas and Papas was an album track that got played at a lot of radio stations; it will get to number 6 here in two weeks.  And KJR DJ characters Granny Peters & Clyde are back on the survey with “Wonder Mother,” which was released as a single on Reprise but I have never heard it—its number 40 position this week is its peak.  Barry McGuire’s “Cloudy Summer Afternoon” was a number 62 BB hit that will reach number 16 here; Jackie DeShannon’s “Come and Get Me” got to number 83 in Billboard and will hit number 40 here next week.
