After ten weeks at number one with “Let it Be,” the Beatles
are knocked out of the top spot by…the Beatles.
All five of the debuts are worth mentioning, with four doing
better in Seattle than nationally, and one doing worse: Melanie’s “Lay Down”
(6BB/16KJR); Mark Lindsay’s “Silver Bird,” which later became a Yamaha
motorcycle jingle (25/3); Peggy Lipton’s version of Donovan’s “Wear Your Love
Like Heaven” (108/32), Jackie DeShannon’s medley of “You Keep Me Hangin’
On/Hurt So Bad” (96/19), and “I Heard the Voice of Jesus” by West Virginia
singer/guitarist Turley Richards (99/37).
