Iron Butterfly--In the Time of Our Lives
|
“Heather Honey” and “Special Delivery” drop off the survey
from number 16 and number 18.
All nine of the debuts were Hot 100 hits. When “Richard and Me” by Gene & Tommy
debuted on 9-29-67 I talked a little about the different permutations of Gene
Pistilli, Tommy West, and Terry Cashman; the three of them debut here as the
Buchanan Brothers with the bubblegummy “Medicine Man,” a number 22 Billboard
hit that will spend two weeks at number two here.
“In the Time of Our Lives” by Iron Butterfly will spend five
weeks on the survey, though only getting as high as number 46—but that’s quite
a bit better than its number 96 national showing. “The Prophecy of Daniel and
John the Divine (Six-Six-Six)” sounds more like an Iron Butterfly title than a
Cowsills title, but musically it’s typical Cowsills. Lyrically, I have no idea what its point
is. It was a number 75 hit nationally
and will get to number 45 here at KJR. “I
Turned You On” by the Isley Brothers will come up short of its number 23 BB
peak, stopping here at number 41.
What I remember most about the Buchanan Brothers' "Medicine Man" was that the backup band included someone holding down a single note on an organ keyboard for entire stanzas at a time. Did anyone else ever notice that?
ReplyDeleteI hadn't--I'll have to listen to it again! Thanks for the comment.
