A number of big jumps—25 to 7, 39 to 15, 49 to 21—and drops—6
to 26, 7 to 32, 13 to 35.
“Hello Goodbye” stands alone for its final week on the
survey, as the Walrus exits a week early.
“Guitar Man”’s b-side, “High Heel Sneakers,” joins it for this one week
only.
This is the third straight week that there’s been exactly
six debut records, though this time we also have one return, “Love is Blue.” All were Top 40 hits in Billboard except one:
“Everybody Knows You’re Not in Love,” a not-so-psychedelic record by the
Electric Prunes, six months after they last dented the national charts. This one seems to have only gotten airplay in
Washington and Utah.
The Balloon Farm’s “A Question of Temperature” was a number
37 BB hit but will make it up to number eleven here. “I Wish it Would Rain” by the Temptations and
“We’re a Winner” by the Impressions were number four and 14 hits, respectively,
nationally, but will only get to number 22 and 36 here. Dionne Warwick’s “Valley of the Dolls” debuts
up at number 22 and will shoot to number one next week, yet will only spend
eight weeks total on the survey (in BB it peaked at number two, staying there
for four weeks).
