Discovery: Del Shannon—Handy Man

A big leap for the Dave Clark Five this week.

Two non-BB debuts:  As one Wailers record almost sinks off the survey, another, “On the Rocks,” debuts and will hit number 14 in a couple weeks.  And pre-stardom Waylon Jennings, living in Los Angeles and recording for Herb Alpert’s A&M Records, will reach number 11 here in two weeks with “Just to Satisfy You,” a folkier version of the song than the duet with Willie Nelson that hit number 1 on the Billboard Country chart in 1982.

A good week for European pop at KJR: Rita Pavone, one of the biggest recording stars in Italy in the 60s, debuts with her stab at the English-language market, “Remember Me,” which hit number 26 in Billboard and will get to number 23 here; Malmkvist and Marcato, from Sweden and Italy, will get to number 9 here in two weeks with a song that hit number 58 in BB; and British singer Cilla Black’s “You’re My World” made it to number 26 in BB and will get to number 6 here.

Also worth mentioning is that “Little Latin Lupe Lu” by Portland’s Kingsmen, which topped out at only number 46 in Billboard, will make it to number 7 at KJR in three weeks.
