Johnny Cash--Folsom Prison Blues

“Tip-Toe Thru’ the Tulips with Me” returns after its two-week absence; it still doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere, but next week it’ll make a leap.

The six debuts were all top 50 hits in Billboard—I’ll go ahead and mention them all.  The Animals’ “Sky Pilot” was a number 14 BB hit that will be number one for four weeks here.  The album version was over seven minutes long, so on the single it stretched over both sides.  Billboard listed “Sky Pilot (Part One)” as the hit, while the KJR survey just says “Sky Pilot,” but I’m guessing KJR only played the short version.  The Association’s “Time For Livin’” only got to number 39 at Billboard, marking the end of their period of peak success, but it’ll make it up to number 13 here.  “The Look of Love” by Brasil ’66 was a number four BB hit, but here it’ll only get to number 23, though it’ll hang around for nine weeks.

The other three debuts will all do a little bit better here than nationally: Sam & Dave’s “You Don’t Know What You Mean to Me” (48BB/32KJR), Joe Simon’s “(You Keep Me) Hangin’ On” (25/20), and Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” a number one BB country hit, (32/19).
