Cliff Nobles & Co.--The Horse

“Reach Out of the Darkness” and “I Love You” reverse positions—interesting to me because I always associate those two records with one another for some reason.

With “Yummy Yummy Yummy” charging toward the top of the chart, Andy Kim moving up, Boyce & Hart hanging around, and some more debuting, the classic bubblegum era is definitely underway, especially in Seattle.  The Lemon Pipers’ “Jelly Jungle” is a perfect example of bubblegum-psych; it only got to number 51 in Billboard but will make it up to number 14 here.  Herman’s Hermits continue their KJR success with the music hall/bubblegum “Sleepy Joe,” 61 at Billboard but 21 here (it’ll fall off the survey next week but it’ll be back).  Before I bought the record I was expecting “Backwards and Forwards” by December’s Children to be more pop-psych, but it’s actually kind of soulful bubblegum—it only Bubbled Under at Billboard, at number 123, while here it’ll go to number 41 next week and then vanish.

Soul instrumental “The Horse” by Cliff Nobles & Co. was a number two BB hit; here it will only get as high as number 30, though it will spend eleven weeks on the survey.
