“Ruby Tuesday” makes a dramatic leap, while KJR starts also
playing its b-side, “Let’s Spend the Night Together.” In Billboard they were listed separately,
with “Ruby Tuesday” getting to number one and “Let’s Spend the Night Together”
topping out at number 55.
Nancy Sinatra’s “Sugar Town” drops off the survey from
number 24, after being at number six the week before that. Meanwhile the b-side of that record debuts
this week, “Summer Wine,” a duet with her producer/songwriter Lee
Hazlewood. It will beat “Sugar Town” at
KJR, getting up to number two, while nationally it only made it to number 49.
One of the week’s twelve debuts, “Another Page” by Connie
Francis, only made the Bubbling Under chart at Billboard, peaking there at
number 121. It’ll inch up to number 47
here. “Walk Tall” by Cincinnati female
duo 2 of Clubs only got up to number 92 in Billboard; here it debuts at number
31, though it will get no higher. We
also have “Our Winter Love” by the Lettermen (72BB/23KJR), “Peek-a-Boo” by the
New Vaudeville Band (72/43) and “Sunrise, Sunset” by Roger Williams (84/37)—a good
week for easy listening.
KJR would only play an edited version of "Let's Spend The Night Together." They spliced out the word "night" and put "let's spend the" in its place, so the song said "let's spend the let's spend the together." They called the song "Let's Spend It Together."
ReplyDeleteI did not know that! Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the Fabulous 50 as is was printed in the Post Intelligencer, it will show "Let's Spend It Together," with no suggestion of spending the night together. That was just way too racy for that time.
