Grand Funk Railroad--Closer to Home

Just four debuts, for the third straight week and the fourth time in five weeks.  Songs are sticking around longer than they used to.

Mark Lindsay’s “And the Grass Won’t Pay No Mind,” written by Neil Diamond, was only a number 44 hit on the Hot 100, but it’ll get to number five here, matching its peak on the BB Easy Listening chart.  “Lucretia Mac Evil” by Blood, Sweat & Tears will get to number nine, beating its number 29 Billboard peak.  Singer-songwriter Jake Holmes had a number 49 BB hit with “So Close,” which we’ll see get to number 38.  And Grand Funk Railroad’s “Closer to Home,” an edited version of a ten-minute album track, will also peak at number 38, though it got to number 22 nationally.

Jake is so close, but Grand Funk is closer.  While the Carpenters merely long to be close.
