Engelbert Humperdinck--Winter World of Love

This week’s “suddenly overstaying its welcome” award goes to Rick Nelson’s “She Belongs to Me,” which drops off the survey from number 15.

Only four debuts, so I’ll mention them all.  “No Time” by the Guess Who, number five in Billboard, will spend three weeks at number four here.  “Together” by New York band the Illusion, number 80 in Billboard, will get up to number 18.  “Winter World of Love” by Engelbert Humperdinck, number 16 BB, will peak at number 20.  “She” by Tommy James & the Shondells peaked at number 23 in Billboard.  It’s number 47 this week; the chart for next week, December 19, did not appear in the newspaper; on December 26 there was no regular chart, just the year-end chart; and on January 2 the record is listed as a two-sided hit with its b-side, “Loved One,” shown as the a-side, as it would be for the rest of its run on the survey.  I know that it was number 46 on December 19 from the January 2 survey, but I don’t know whether “She” was still showing as the a-side at that point.  What I’m getting at is that I’m not sure what peak position to credit “She” with: the number 47 I know it attained as an a-side, the number 46 it may have attained as an a-side, or the number 8 we will see it attain while listed as the b-side…

I find it amusing that “Winter World of Love” came just two weeks too late to coexist on the survey with “Hot Fun in the Summertime.”

  1. Are you going to publish a December 19 chart (based on the prior week rankings from the January 2 chart) before you publish the December 26 year-end chart? If so, then I'll wait until the December 19 chart is published before I make my full-year 1969 chart.

    1. Yes, I'll post December 19 next, then the year-end.
