A shakeup in the top ten as three songs jump in.

Last week’s number eleven song, “I Started a Joke,” drops off the survey, as does the number 16 song, “Rainbow Ride.”

There are now only three songs left that debuted in 1968, “Crimson and Clover,” “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” and “Touch Me,” though none of them are going away anytime soon.

John Wilkinson was hired as Elvis Presley’s rhythm guitarist just before “July, You’re a Woman” was released on RCA, Elvis’s record label, so I assume there’s a connection there.  The song was written by John Stewart of the Kingston Trio (Wilkinson also played with them) and was also recorded by Pat Boone, whose version got to number 100 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 23 on the Easy Listening chart.  Wilkinson’s version did not chart nationally, but it will get to number 25 here.

Neil Diamond’s “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show” was a number 22 BB hit that will make it to number two here at KJR, while Dusty Springfield’s “Don’t Forget About Me,” a number 64 BB hit, will go to number 31 here next week and then drop off.  The number twelve national hit “More Today Than Yesterday” by the Spiral Starecase, which seems like a likely Seattle hit to me, will be number 45 next week, and then also drop off.
