Steppenwolf--Rock Me

Tragically, Brian Hyland’s “Tragedy” drops off the survey from number 14.

We’ve got one non-Billboard hit debuting this week, though it was a big hit in the UK: the hard-rocking “Race With the Devil” by British band the Gun.  It’ll repeat at number 47 next week and then drop off.  Johnny Rivers’ version of Joe South’s “These Are Not My People,” a number 55 BB hit, will reach number 30 here in a couple of weeks.  “Rock Me” by Steppenwolf was a number ten national hit, but here it’ll do even better, peaking at number three.  “Traces” by the Classics IV is almost a mirror image: number two in Billboard, number 13 at KJR.

Three more songs that debuted in 1968 drop off, leaving only seven.
