Two of the debuts only Bubbled Under in Billboard.  “You Came, You Saw, You Conquered!” by the Ronettes was number 108 there, will get to number 43 here.  And Andy Kim’s political-as-bubblegum-songs-go “Tricia Tell Your Daddy” (Tricia’s daddy being President Nixon) was number 110 there and will go to number 31 here.

I’ll also mention Canned Heat’s “Time Was,” a number 67 BB hit that will make it to number 39 here, and, just because I really like it, “Playgirl” by Thee Prophets, number 49 nationally and number 34 in Seattle.

All nine of the week’s debuts were Hot 100 hits.  Two will each peak at number 40 here but fared very differently nationally: “Goodbye Columbus” by the Association was a number 80 BB hit while Jerry Butler’s “Only the Strong Survive” went to number four.  (Though the Association will be number 40 next week and then drop off, while Jerry Butler will spend nine weeks on the survey, very slowly climbing to 40 in his fourth week, slipping to 42, going back to 40 for two weeks, then slipping slightly the next two.)

Also doing a bit better in Seattle than nationally: British pop singer-songwriter Peter Sarstedt’s number one UK hit “Where Do You Go to (My Lovely)” (70BB/30KJR), “Wishful Sinful” by the Doors (44/20), “Mercy” by the Ohio Express (30/17), and Mama Cass’ “Move in a Little Closer, Baby” (58/33).
