Spirit of Us--Simple Song of Freedom

The third consecutive week with only four debuts, and the top eight are the same as last week, with some changes of position.

Bobby Sherman’s “Julie, Do Ya Love Me” will spend 16 weeks on the survey, three at number one; Sugarloaf’s “Green-Eyed Lady” will spend 17 weeks on the survey, two at number one.  In Billboard, they peaked at five and three respectively.  The survey lists “Green-Eyed Lady” as an LP cut for its first four weeks.

Elvis Presley’s “The Next Step is Love” was the b-side of “I’ve Lost You,” which will not make the survey.  In Billboard it was listed as a double-sided hit for each of its nine weeks on the chart, peaking at number 32.  “The Next Step is Love” will peak here at number 23.

That leaves Spirit of Us, a group I know nothing about, and their version of “Simple Song of Freedom,” a song we saw here in July of 1969 by Tim Hardin, and which we will see again in another version.  This one peaked at number 106 in Billboard, and will make it to number 39 on our survey.
