Marmalade--Reflections of My Life

Johnny Cash left Sun Records for Columbia in 1958.  When he reached a new plateau of success in 1968-69, Sun started re-releasing some of his old recordings as singles, to try to capitalize.  “Rock Island Line” is one of those; it got to number 35 on the Billboard country chart, 93 on the pop chart, and will make it to number 46 here.  We’ll see Johnny’s new Columbia single here in a few weeks.

Neil Diamond’s “Shilo” was a number 24 national hit, while “Reflections of My Life” by Scottish band the Marmalade got to number ten; both will peak at number two here, Neil spending more weeks (two) at number two but the Marmalade spending more weeks (18) on the survey.  The record that will block both of them from number one will debut next week.

Smith--Take a Look Around

“Travelin’ Band”’s b-side, “Who’ll Stop the Rain,” joins it in the CCR listing.  They’ll be listed together the rest of the way.

All five of the debuts will do at least a little bit better here than nationally: “Something’s Burning” by Kenny Rogers & the First Edition (11BB/2KJR), Rick Nelson’s self-penned “Easy to Be Free” (48/34), Mary Hopkin’s “Temma Harbour” (39/25), “Mississippi Mama” by Ohio band Owen B. (97/20), and Smith’s follow-up to “Baby It’s You,” “Take a Look Around” (43/29). the Rain,"

For a while there we were having records drop off the survey from the top 25 pretty much every week, but it doesn’t seem to be happening anymore.  I wonder if KJR made adjustments to how they worked out the positions.
