Rugbys--You, I

A big leap for the “Little Woman,” from 50 to 17.  Last week’s number 17 song, “One,” drops completely off the survey.

Its b-side “Commotion” drops off and “Green River” will continue on its own.

Two non-Billboard records debut this week.  Pop-rock singer-songwriter Kenny O’Dell (we saw him here once before, almost two years back, with “Beautiful People”) will stay at number 44 for one more week and then drop off the survey.  “Americas” by the French Revolution will go to number 47 next week, stay there for four weeks, and then drop off.  All I know about them is that they were from Montreal, where, naturally, they were called La Révolution Française.  But I have the record, which is memorable and a little odd, though it’s basically pop-rock with horns.  It’s about how great America is (or the Americas are):

From Brasilia to Alaska
Mississippi to Hawaii
People build new generation
Growing cities’ population

California seems so wealthy
Argentina seems so shiny
Everywhere people sing and shout
America, God bless America
America you’re great
America have faith

There was time for revolution
Now it’s time for brand new nations
People feel so happy to live
In this land of joy and freedom

Among the other debuts, worth mentioning are Steppenwolf’s “Move Over” (31BB/16KJR) and Lou Christie’s “I’m Gonna Make You Mine” (10/32).

Postscript: A little more digging revealed that “Americas” was a reworking for the American market of La Révolution Française’s song “Québécois,” which was a call for Quebec’s independence.
