Peggy Lipton--Stoney End
|
“The Dance at St. Francis” is rockin’ pop-rock by New York
group the Barracuda; it’ll reach number 29 here though it was only number 113
in Billboard. The version of “Stoney End”
that most people remember, or so I assume, is Barbra Streisand’s 1970 Billboard
number six hit; TV star Peggy Lipton’s version debuting here, only number 121
BB, is the one I remember more strongly.
Both will peak at number 20 at KJR.
The other debuts were all top 60 hits at Billboard. None will do hugely better or worse here,
though worth mentioning are Creedence Clearwater Revival’s version of “I Put a
Spell on You,” their last release before their run of big hits (58BB/32KJR), “Till”
by the Vogues (27/16), “Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero” by Rene & Rene (14/27), and
18-year-old Stevie Wonder entering the adult phase of his career with “For Once
in My Life” (2/13).
The cool thing about Barbra Streisand's cover of Peggy Lipton's version of "Stoney End" (written by Laura Nyro), is that her producer lifted Gene Page's arrangement almost verbatim.
