The new Monkees single debuts in the top ten, giving them
four songs on the survey.
“Undecided Man,” the b-side, is added to the entry for Paul
Revere & the Raiders’ “Good Thing.” The
two sides will be listed together for three weeks, and then “Good Thing” will
spend several more weeks on the survey alone.
“Undecided Man” did not chart in Billboard. The other new songs this week were all Top 40
hits, and none of them will do much better here than they did there. Simon & Garfunkel’s “A Hazy Shade of
Winter” peaked at number 13 in Billboard but will not get any higher here than
its number 25 debut position; it’ll sit there for three weeks and then sink
slowly. Motown hits “A Place in the Sun”
by Stevie Wonder and “I’m Ready For Love” by Martha & the Vandellas, both
number nine BB hits, will only get to number 32 and 41 here, respectively. And “I’m a Believer,” which was number one
for seven weeks in Billboard, will only stay there for one week here, though
that will be followed by eight weeks at number two—most of those behind a
record which will debut next week.
