“The Dance at St. Francis” is rockin’ pop-rock by New York group the Barracuda; it’ll reach number 29 here though it was only number 113 in Billboard.  The version of “Stoney End” that most people remember, or so I assume, is Barbra Streisand’s 1970 Billboard number six hit; TV star Peggy Lipton’s version debuting here, only number 121 BB, is the one I remember more strongly.  Both will peak at number 20 at KJR.

The other debuts were all top 60 hits at Billboard.  None will do hugely better or worse here, though worth mentioning are Creedence Clearwater Revival’s version of “I Put a Spell on You,” their last release before their run of big hits (58BB/32KJR), “Till” by the Vogues (27/16), “Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero” by Rene & Rene (14/27), and 18-year-old Stevie Wonder entering the adult phase of his career with “For Once in My Life” (2/13).

We last saw Bellevue’s City Zu in December 1967; they’re back with their second and final record on the survey, “Eeny Meeny,” also non-Billboard.  It’ll get to number 40.  Gary Lewis & the Playboys only made it to number 101 in Billboard with the sunshine-pop-bubblegum “Main Street,” which will peak here next week at number 33.

Eddie Floyd’s version of “Bring it on Home to Me,” a number 17 national hit, will inch up to number 46 next week and drop off.  The other debuts will all do at least a bit better here than in BB: “Goody Goody Gumdrops” by the 1910 Fruitgum Co. (37BB/7KJR), the Sir Douglas Quintet’s “Mendocino” (27/12), Johnny Rivers’ “Right Relations” (61/30), and “Do Something to Me” by Tommy James & the Shondells (38/21).
