Another out-of-sequence post filling in a gap. The first column is the year-end ranking, second is peak position on the survey, third is peak position at Billboard.

This looks like a pretty good survey, with just Louis Armstrong and the Ray Charles Singers seeming a bit out of place.  There are a lot more top three hits, though most of them were only on the survey for a short period of time:

Kinks—You Really Got Me (peaked at #1, 9 weeks on the survey)
Beatles—If I Fell (1, 8)
Beatles—Boys (1, 5)
Bobby Vinton—Mr. Lonely (2, 12)
Ventures—Walk Don’t Run ’64 (2, 11)
Danny Williams—White on White (2, 9)
Jan & Dean—New Girl in School (2, 8)
Brenda Lee—Is it True? (2, 8)
Dave Clark Five—Any Way You Want it (2, 8)
Chuck Berry—You Never Can Tell (2, 7)
Beach Boys—Wendy (2, 7)
Four Tops—Baby I Need Your Loving (2, 6)
Gestures—Run, Run, Run (3, 12)
Beatles—And I Love Her (3, 9)
Sonny Knight—If You Want This Love (3, 9)
Reflections—(Just Like) Romeo & Juliet (3, 8)
Four Seasons—Save it For Me (3, 7)
Newbeats—Everything’s Alright (3, 7)
Martha & the Vandellas—Dancing in the Street (3, 6)

It’s odd that “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Can’t Buy Me Love” are listed as a single entry, since they were not two sides of the same record, and they came out almost four months apart.
