Five debuts, all top 40 Billboard hits, but the only one that’ll do as well here as nationally is the Bells’ “Stay Awhile” (7BB/6KJR). Paul McCartney’s first solo single “Another Day”/”Oh Woman Oh Why” was a number five BB hit that will peak at number 14, though by that time only “Another Day” will be listed. The others are “Mr. Bojangles” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (9/19), Santana’s “Oye Como Va” (13/28), and Glen Campbell’s version of “Dream Baby” (31/42).

Eight debuts this week, all of which made the Billboard Hot 100. One just barely, though—British pop singer Lally Stott’s “Chirpy Chirpy, Cheep Cheep” was a number 92 hit; here it’ll make it to number 27. That’s the only one of the debuts that will do significantly better here, while some will do worse: King Floyd’s “Groove Me” (6BB/15KJR), Ike and Tina Turner’s version of “Proud Mary” (4/26), “Don’t Let the Green Grass Fool You” by Wilson Pickett (17/45), and “Treat Her Like a Lady” by the Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose (3/14).
A lot of songs with first names in the titles: Bobby, Timothy, Amos, Bridget, Scotty, Petula, and two Marys.
