“Hello Goodbye” and “I Am the Walrus” swap spots in their entry; they’ll stay in that order for the rest of their time on the survey.

Only five debuts, so I’ll mention them all.  The Beach Boys’ “Darlin’” was a number 19 BB hit that will peak at number 15 here.  South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela’s version of “Up-Up and Away” got to number 71 in Billboard; here it’ll peak next week at number 31 and then drop off the survey.  Country crossover social commentary “Skip a Rope” by Henson Cargill was a number one country hit that made it to number 25 on the pop Hot 100; here it’ll go to number ten.  The Hollies, after a hot streak from mid-1966 to mid-1967, had at this point entered a slump on the US charts—“Dear Eloise” only got to number 50 in Billboard, though here it’ll make it up to number nine.  And Roger Miller’s “Old Toy Trains” is another Billboard Christmas Chart hit, which is spending its only week on the KJR survey.

“Hello Goodbye” joins “I Am the Walrus” on the survey.

“Little Becky’s Christmas Wish” by five-year-old Becky Lamb will only spend this one week on the survey.  It did not make the Billboard Hot 100 but it did peak at number two on the BB Christmas chart.  It’s a horribly maudlin spoken-word record about Becky’s brother Tommy not making it home from Vietnam.

The Doors’ “Love Me Two Times” was a number 25 BB hit that will get up to number ten here.  And “Monterey” by Eric Burdon & the Animals will beat its number 15 Billboard peak by getting to number four.

Odd Observation #37: It seems like there are a lot of “oo”s in this survey.  We’ve got “Spooky,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Boogaloo Down Broadway” in consecutive spots; “Hello Goodbye,” “Snoopy’s Christmas” and “Itchycoo Park” in consecutive spots; plus “Never Too Much Love,” “Too Much of Nothing,” “In the Misty Moonlight,” and the Doors.
