We are now three weeks away from a change in the format of the Fabulous 40. Starting August 24, and through November 2, the songs are not numbered. Instead, there is a top ten, a second ten, and then another twenty, or more, listed in groups. I am mentioning this now because it’s at this point that it becomes more difficult to compare a record’s local peak with its national peak.
Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get it On,” number one for two weeks
nationally, will spend eight weeks in the top ten here. “You Got Me Anyway” by
the Sutherland Brothers & Quiver, number 48 in Billboard, will spend three
weeks in the second ten. “My Maria” by B.W. Stevenson, number nine in BB, will
spend three weeks in the top ten, while Cat Stevens’ “The Hurt,” number 31
nationally, will peak at number 37 and be gone from the Fab 40 when the new
format begins.
