All six debuts were Billboard top 40 hits. Nothing too dramatic as far as differences between Seattle and the rest of the country—the most significant is for Neil Diamond’s “Song Sung Blue,” a number one national hit that will stop at number eight for us. The others: “It’s Going to Take Some Time” by the Carpenters (12BB/15KJR), “Isn’t Life Strange” by the Moody Blues (29/39), the Staple Singers’ “I’ll Take You There” (1/5), Jo Jo Gunne’s “Run Run Run” (27/26), and “Mister Can’t You See” by Buffy Sainte-Marie (38/48).

Carly Simon--Legend in Your Own Time

After one week, the b-side of Cat Stevens’ “Morning Has Broken” drops off the survey.

Eight debuts this week, all top 50 Billboard hits except “Little Dog Heaven” by June Jackson, which did not make BB but will get to number 15 here. As far as I know I have never heard it, and all I know is that June Jackson was a male soul singer.

The Jackson Five’s version of “Little Bitty Pretty One” was a number 13 national hit but will stop at number 29 here. On the plus side: Neil Young’s “Old Man” (31BB/10KJR), Little Jimmy Osmond’s only hit (38/18), “Legend in Your Own Time” by Carly Simon (50/30), and Wayne Newton’s “Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast,” a number four BB hit that will get to number one and spend 15 weeks on our survey.
