For this week only, Cat Stevens’ entry appears as “Morning Has Broken/flip.” The flip is “I Want to Live in a Wigwam,” which will disappear from the survey next week.

All six of the week’s debuts were Billboard Hot 100 hits, though just barely in the case of “Questions” by Philadelphia hard-rock trio Bang, which peaked at number 90 but will get to number 31 here. Three of the others will do a bit better here than nationally—Bread’s “Diary” (15BB/6KJR), “Sylvia’s Mother” by Dr. Hook (5/2), and Don McLean’s “Vincent” (12/3). That leaves two coming up short—“Look What You Done For Me” by Al Green (4/17) and Nova Scotia rock group April Wine’s only appearance on the Fab 50, “You Could Have Been a Lady” (32/47).

Its B-side, “Smooth Sailing,” is added to the listing for the Temptations’ “Take a Look Around.” “Smooth Sailing” did not chart nationally.

Three Dog Night’s “Family of Man” returns to the survey after one week off.

“I Saw the Light” by Todd Rundgren and “Slippin’ Into Darkness” by War were both number 16 hits in Billboard; here Todd will get up to number five and War all the way to number one. “Suavecito” by Malo and “Taurus” by Dennis Coffey were both number 18 hits in BB; here Malo will also peak at number 18 while Dennis will stall at number 46. That leaves “You Are the One” by cereal spokesman Sugar Bear and his cartoon band the Sugar Bears, a number 51 national hit that will make it to number 23.
